Adios, Cowboy – Arc 2 – Day 5

Today was a second screening and note taking session on My Funny Valentine. Faye is starting to grow on me a little bit. That said, I still think it was a mistake to place this episode at this point in the series. The entire relationship between Faye and Gren could have landed with more emotional impact if we knew that Faye came into life as an adult absent any memory of her past.

I also have some thoughts on how the bounty hunters on the Bebop have an odd relationship with their respective pasts: Faye’s past is absent; Spike’s past is trying to kill him; Jet’s past a millstone about his neck. One could see everything that they do as an attempt to put emotional and physical distance between themselves and their past. Though that thesis doesn’t quite work since Spike keeps going back to Mars.

The goal for tomorrow is to get a draft of MFV written and then do some last minute manic edits on episode 3’s review before it goes live on Monday.
