Adios, Cowboy – Arc 1 – Day 38

Keen eyed observers will note we’ve gone from day 36 to day 38. Some might even be inclined to ask, “what gives, Adam? Who do you think you are missing a day?” Well, that’s a funny story.

After spending eleven hours at the day job yesterday, I tried to get some substantive edits done on Stray Dog Strut. It didn’t go as well as I had hoped. Admittedly, the first draft of that review was a bit rougher around the edges than I had expected. By the time I got to the end of my first pass on it, I had reached a point where I was doubting my fundamental ability to offer any sort of command over the written word. It reached a level of contemplating, “what even are words?” I think the only useful thing Exhausted Adam did was to purge out some filler.

Honestly, I was in such a rough state last night that reshaping a few paragraphs seemed like an impossible effort. I remember thinking that substantive changes obviously meant the review was a failure, and I should jettison the whole thing. Let that be a lesson for any newbies reading these words. Your tired brain is a lair.

So where are we? Asteroid Blues is pretty much ready to go. Stray Dog Strut has had its first substantive edit. Most importantly, I powered through the feeling that this entire project was terrible and I should blow it up as a last act before never writing anything more complex than a fortune cookie.
