Adios, Cowboy – Arc 1 – Day 32

One more draft done, one more to go before hitting the end of the first arc. At the current rate of production, I’ll have the last review drafted up on Sunday. Oh god, that means I’ll have to shift into editing on Monday. Oh fuck, that means I need to figure out what my editing schedule is going to be. I’m sure it won’t be that bad. After all, I’ve only written…FIFTEEN THOUSAND WORDS WORTH OF REVIEWS. Fuuuuuuck.

By the time I finish arc 2’s reviews, I am going to have a beefy novella’s worth of words written on this show.

I know I ran the numbers on this project ages ago, but those hypothetical figures seemed less daunting when I wasn’t staring down the barrel of having to edit five figures worth of words.

Who wants to hear one of my new crackpot theories on Cowboy Bebop?

I think there’s a chance that Faye might be an immortal. Symphony for the Devil shows how the hyperspace disaster on Luna made at least one person on Earth eternally young. Granted, Jet hammered out some technobabble about how the hyperspace magic only worked on young people, but here’s my counterpoint: Jet’s an ex-cop. What in the oeuvre of a space cop’s skill sets qualifies him to be any sort of authority on the effects of hyperspace magic on human bodies?

Additional evidence to support my theory is as follows. Faye’s introduction in Honky Tonk Woman talks about how she might be older than she looks, comparing her to a famous 20th century gambler. When she’s sun tanning in Ganymede Elegy, she says that life is a futile battle against bad skin – or something like that. When Faye is drinking vodka with Gren in Jupiter Jazz, she says she is much older than she looks, and she has spent a very long time living on her own.

For those keeping track at home, I can now make a case for Spike as a face changing son of Mao Yenrai (or possibly some sort of replicant) and Faye as some sort of space Highlander.
