Adios, Cowboy – Arc 1 – Day 2

I finished a first draft of the Asteroid Blues review. I also got my taxes done. Successes across the board today.

I have to admit, there’s a wonderful feeling of freedom in writing a review that eschews the expectation of a detailed plot summary as antecedent to saying something, anything, interesting about the episode. Oh, spoiler alert, I’m not really doing the whole plot review as a part of this project. This is mostly due to my desire to dive into elements of each individual episode without getting bogged down in the details. Also, I really fucking hate writing episode summaries.

Much respect to people who thrive in the “tv recap” genre of criticism. I’ve tried it, and it is not my jam. It always ends up feeling like a game of paper, rock, scissors, against myself: an impossible struggle to balance a snappy precis of screenplay against producing meaningful insights about the screenplay. Since the best I can hope for is a draw, I’d rather not play the game.
